Subaru XV Top Features

Good level of standard equipment.

Choice of non-hybrid or hybrid petrol engines.

Raised ride height and decent off-road capability.

  • Unlike some other models, you don’t lose any boot space by choosing the hybrid-engined XV over its purely petrol-powered sibling. But at 385 litres, the car’s luggage capacity is a little less than average for a midsized SUV. However, it’s still fine for smaller families, or you can temporarily increase that to 765 litres by dropping the rear seats.

If you want a truly spacious Subaru, you really need to be looking at the larger Subaru Forester or the Outback Estate.

Elsewhere, space for occupants up front is generous and it’s easy to get a child seat (and accompanying child) into the back of the Subaru XV. Adult passengers in the back, however, may not enjoy the limited amount of headroom caused by the tapering roofline.

  • If fuel economy is a priority, then choosing to lease the 2.0-litre hybrid XV rather than 1.6-litre petrol model should be a no-brainer. The former a more powerful engine, making the car more capable and better to drive. It’s also more efficient thanks to its small electric motor and battery set-up.

The official number for the 1.6-litre is 35.3mpg, while the 2.0-litre returned 35.7mpg. The difference is marginal, but we’d recommend this option with everything considered. CO2 emissions are the same across the board, however, at 180g/km – which is about what you’d expect for a petrol engine car of this size.

Subaru XV Lease Models

The XV comes in just 1 form – a 5-door hatchback that rides higher than your typical family car, and it is also blessed with chunky off-road-inspired styling touches.

The 2.0-litre hybrid is a much better performer than the underpowered 1.6-litre petrol, but there’s no dedicated performance version of the XV – Subaru’s ‘rally special’ days are no longer.

Subaru XV Trim Levels

Trim Levels Available: SE, SE Premium

A couple of desirable features make leasing the SE Premium trim tempting, but even if you stick with the entry-level SE you get rain-sensing wipers, privacy glass, alloys, roof rails, heated front seats and dual-zone air conditioning.

The Subaru XV Vs Competitors

The Subaru XV makes for a more rough-and-ready alternative to more conventional premium family hatchbacks. The price puts this car in range of some pretty desirable competition, including other crossover SUVs like the Mercedes GLA, Nissan Qashqai and Volkswagen Tiguan.

The XV can beat most of them when it comes to robustness, reliability and sheer off-road ability, even if it loses ground a bit when it comes to practicality, comfort and performance.

  • Strong reliability has been a key factor in why Subaru has attracted such a loyal and devoted customer base in the UK over the years, and its latest models show no sign of dropping the ball in this area.

  • Not as much as you might think – just 385 litres with all seats in place, and 765 litres with them down.

  • Only 2, which are SE and SE Premium, but there is also the choice of 1.6-litre petrol or 2.0-litre hybrid power.

  • A system that applies the brakes automatically if it detects you’re about to reverse into something is standard across the range, while a reversing camera is added if you choose the 2.0-litre engine.

  • The 5-seater hatchback body shape means it can handle typical family duties with ease, but it doesn’t have the biggest boot capacity in its class and the back seats aren’t terribly comfortable for adults.

  • Like all Subarus, the XV will appeal if you want an unpretentious and capable car that focuses on getting the basics right. If you think paying over the odds for designer labels is silly, then the XV is your type of car.

  • If you want the best price on your Subaru XV lease, choose Vanarama. We guarantee the best car leasing offers and include free delivery in every deal. We’re rated Excellent on Trustpilot and offer free 30-day returns in case you change your mind.
