Do you want to give young people the opportunity to learn trade skills from professionals like you? The Volunteer It Yourself scheme does just this! It's the perfect combination of voluntary work and DIY to give young people aged 14-24 the chance to learn trade and building skills on the job. They do this by committing to fix buildings in their communities alongside professional tradespeople who also volunteer their time to share their established skills and experience.
Why is Vanarama involved?
When Vanarama heard about VIY, we jumped at the chance to be involved. The majority of our commercial vehicle customers are tradespeople, and their wealth of knowledge, skills and experience is a perfect match to be a part of the scheme. And that's not the only reason. Vanarama knows that tradespeople and their businesses are the backbone of the British economy. We want to encourage young people to see learning a trade as a potential career, and what better way to do that than a scheme like VIY?
Why should YOU be involved?
Your skills and guidance could very well set the next generation of tradespeople on their way,and the work done in the communities to date is of enormous value. So far, over 130 youth club buildings across England and Wales have been refurbished thanks to the VIY scheme since launch, involving more than 2500 young people and more than 500 trade skills mentors. Simply put: the value of the work, and the skills you pass on, will have a huge impact. All you need to do is fill in the application form and register your interest in becoming a mentor.
