The Volvo V90 is a luxurious estate car. It possesses the distinctive Scandinavian style and elegance modern Volvos have become synonymous with – but a strong focus on comfort and efficient engine options is what sets the V90 apart from its rivals. Smart looking and practical, this is the ideal family car to lease with Vanarama.

Volvo V90 Top 3 Features

Top quality interior finishes.

  • Volvo has always been known for its practical design and the V90 continues this trend by offering a very spacious interior allied with plenty of storage space for odds and ends. Passenger-wise, there’s plenty of space for 4 adults, and the rear-centre seat is comfortable enough should you need to add a 5th.

The boot area is generous, offering 560 litres of space with the rear seats up, which beats that of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate, the Audi A6 Avant and the BMW 5 Series Estate when compared with their hybrid offerings. There’s also a ski hatch fitted between the rear seats as standard, which allows for longer items to be carried with 4 occupants on board.

  • If the eye-catching exterior and interior designs are what draw you to the Volvo V90, then the efficient engines and low running costs are what will keep your attention. The diesels offer between 45 and 50mpg, while the petrols can manage between 34- and 40mpg in mixed conditions. All have mild-hybrid technology but there’s only one plug-in hybrid model on offer, the V90 Recharge.

The T6 Recharge plug-in is capable of up to an astonishing 353.1mpg and can cover more than 53 miles in pure electric mode, thanks to an enlarged battery pack as part of a midlife facelift; you’ll also only have to tax it according to 20g/km of CO2 emissions. However, if this electric-only mileage is less than your daily commute then you’ll hardly have to visit a petrol station if you drive it carefully and charge regularly.

Volvo V90 Models Available

Volvo V90 Estate

The V90 is offered in a 5-door estate body style, which is based on the S90 saloon.

Volvo V90 Cross Country

The Cross Country is more of a trim than a totally different body style, but it does get a raised ride height, standard all-wheel drive and rugged exterior. Audi offers a similar model called the A6 Allroad.

High Performance Models

The B6 AWD mild-hybrid version is certainly quick with 300 horsepower. The 340hp T6 AWD plug-in hybrid is the best performer, while still offering stellar fuel economy figures.

The Volvo V90 Vs Competitors

Not many vehicles compare to the luxury estate Volvo V90. Similar cars on offer are the BMW 5 Series Estate and Audi A6 Avant, they offer a broader range of engines, but neither is as stylish or comfortable.

Less premium rivals include the Skoda Superb Estate and Peugeot 508 SW, both thoroughly capable offerings if you're looking for a lower-priced leasing deal.

  • It’s a very good car, the V90 offers a superbly built interior with a style that is unique to the brand. It prioritises ride comfort and efficiency over outright performance. If these traits are what you seek, then no rival does it better.

  • The V90 offers 560 litres of cargo space with the rear seats up and 1,526 litres with them down. The hybrid offerings from Audi, Mercedes and BMW all trail these figures. If you pick one of the conventional petrol or diesel models then the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate is by far the most spacious, offering 640 and 1,820 litres respectively.

  • No, the Volvo V90 is a 5-seater. This is also the case with all of its estate-shaped competitors. If you need room for 7, then you should consider Volvo XC90 leasing.

  • The V90 is available in both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The higher trim levels offer the latter option. The Volvo V90 Cross Country is also worth a look as it offers a raised ride height and AWD as standard.
