MG HS Leasing

You might be surprised to see the MG badge sitting on the nose of a big family SUV, but the once-British marque’s days of building little roadsters are over. It’s now an arm of the giant Chinese car company SAIC and on the UK market it aims to undercut big players like Ford, Vauxhall, Skoda and Hyundai in the family-car class by offering a lot more car for a lot less money. The HS is perhaps the best example of this to date – it’s equivalent in size to a Nissan Qashqai or Renault Kadjar, but won’t cost nearly as much to lease. It may not be the most exotically styled car, but lease an MG HS and you’ll enjoy a large and practical family SUV for small-hatchback money.

MG HS Top Features:

Image

A great-value family SUV.

Petrol or plug-in hybrid engines available.

Very spacious and well equipped for the money.

  • The MG HS is all about offering you a big car for small money and it certainly delivers on this promise when it comes to interior space for passengers. Boot space offers 463-litre capacity and can free up 1454 litres by dropping the rear seats, but if you’re considering leasing the plug-in hybrid MG HS, bear in mind that its battery pack takes up some of the luggage room.

  • It won’t come as any surprise to know that the plug-in hybrid MG HS offers the lowest running costs in the range – but of course it also has a higher list price, so you need to pay attention to your annual mileage to make sure you’re driving enough to recoup the difference. The plug-in has a fuel economy of nearly 156mpg and the petrol-engined car’s sub-40mpg figures are much more achievable in real-world driving.

Trim Levels To Lease

Excite Exclusive

The Excite trim is very well equipped, coming with a suite of active safety technology, air conditioning, keyless entry, cruise control, a 10-inch colour screen with satnav and a rear parking camera.

The MG HS Vs Competitors

The MG HS’ most direct competitor is the Dacia Duster, which has a similar philosophy of trying to offer family SUV practicality for small hatchback money. It’s a close-run thing, but the HS feels a little less like a budget product.

Apart from that, the HS does a decent job of offering much of the space and equipment of something like a Vauxhall Grandland or Ford Kuga for a lot less money. We've also compared the HS with the 3008 in a dedicated article to see what they both offer and how they differ.

  • The HS hasn’t been around for too long, so long-term reliability data is limited. MG does back up its cars with a very generous 7-year manufacturer warranty, however, so it’ll be a long time before you’re paying to fix any faults.

  • The petrol car offers 463 and 1454 litres respectively with the rear seats up and down, but these numbers drop to 448 and 1375 litres in the plug-in hybrid, due to some space being given over to the battery pack.

  • Just 2 – Excite and Exclusive. Both offer you the same amount of kit that far more expensive equivalent trim levels on rival models do.

  • Yes, it does – rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are standard across the range.

  • In terms of passenger space, it’s very practical, with loads of room to stretch out front and rear. Boot space is average rather than outstanding, but overall the car gives a good account of itself in this area.

  • The HS appeals to those looking for value-for-money and who want to get as much space and equipment as possible, without worrying about the badge on the nose of the car.

  • For the best price on your MG HS lease, choose Vanarama. We guarantee the best car leasing deals with our Price Promise which includes free delivery in every deal. We’re rated Excellent on Trustpilot and offer free 30-day returns in case you change your mind.
