A true 1960s icon of Great Britain immortalised in The Italian Job, the MINI Cooper holds a prominent place in the hearts of many drivers. Instantly recognisable, MINI cars have retained their unique heritage even after becoming part of the BMW family from the year 2000.
The iconic MINI Hatch is available in 3-door & 5-door with a range of engines that are all petrol-powered, either a 1.5-litre 136hp unit in the Cooper or a 192hp 2.0-litre turbo powerplant in the Cooper S. Featuring an adventurous take on the classic design, the MINI hatch is a highly stylish yet affordable choice.
The 3-door version of the MINI Hatch forms the basis for the newest addition to the brand’s line-up, the MINI Electric. It offers a 144 mile WLTP driving range, but it can be quickly charged & offers more agile handling than any other small EV in the class.
Based on the MINI Hatch is the trendy MINI Convertible model, now in its 3rd generation. This drop-top variant uses the same three petrol engines as the Hatch but features a fabric roof that’s customisable in colour & can retract in 18 seconds. One clever feature of this top is that it can retract back slightly at any speed just above your head like a sunroof. The top does slightly encroach on luggage space, which is rated at 215-litres with the roof closed & 160-litres with it folded down.
The family hatch-sized MINI Clubman is a kind of cross between a hatch & a small estate. It’s an all-petrol range, with the same engine choices as in the 3 & 5-door Hatch, & is the most spacious of the MINI range with unique barn style doors.
MINI’s small SUV is the surprisingly practical Countryman, which offers a choice of three powertrains. There’s still a 2.0 litre diesel option, a 178hp 2.0-litre petrol option & a plug-in hybrid version available which features ALL4 4WD & auto transmission.
The Countryman is probably the biggest MINI there will ever be, with comfortable space for two adults on rear seats that can be shifted forwards & backwards by up to 13cms, enabling passengers to prioritise either leg room or boot capacity depending on their needs. Out back, there’s a bigger boot than you might ever have expected to find in any MINI model, rated at 450-litres & extendable via a 40:20:40 split-folding backrest.
