Audi may have been the last German premium brand to show a supercar, but when it showed it, it did it properly, with the unveiling of the R8 V8 in 2006 at the Paris Auto Show. Audi’s flagship supercar became an instant sales hit. Its worldwide popularity prompted two generations, and it’s ready to take on its third.
The 2-door coupe or convertible returns for 2020 after a yearlong hiatus. It’s mildly updated this year with a new nose and slightly more powerful engine that pushes the mid-engine supercar to more than 200mph. Although shares its powertrain and mechanicals with the Lamborghini Huracan, the 2020 Audi R8 is less sharp-edged and surprisingly easy to live with day to day.
The latest version of the R8 is a clear rival to the Porsche 911, McLaren 570S and Mercedes-AMG GT. The R8 isn’t great on mileage for your money, and some rivals have longer features lists, but those are the only real knocks against this Audi.
“With the Audi R8, every drive is destined to be remembered. Featuring the most leading-edge motorsport engineering, this supercar rounds out its unbelievable performance with state-of-the-art technology. Express your true self.”
