Audi R8 Leasing

The Audi R8 is Germany’s supercar. It’s Audi’s answer to the mid-engined sports coupe question posed by Ferrari and McLaren, but it has made its name by being easier to drive and easier to use than those poster-boy monsters. But don’t be fooled by the 4 rings on the front or the high-quality interior. With a fire-spitting 5.2-litre V10 engine churning out up to 620hp, it’s one of the fastest cars you can lease. Getting from 0-62mph takes around 3 seconds and the top speed is beyond 200mph.

Top 3 Features

Incredible performance.

A truly usable supercar.

Dramatic looks.

  • Supercars aren’t known for being spacious, but the R8’s interior is surprisingly roomy. The driving position is good, and there are a few storage spots for your keys, phone and wallet. There’s plenty of headroom, too, and the sole passenger will have enough space to stretch out.

The boot is slightly less impressive. With the engine somewhere behind the driver’s left ear, the luggage bay is under what would normally be the bonnet. It’s a deep tub between the front wheels, offering 112 litres of storage. That’s plenty for a few overnight bags, but you’ll struggle with big suitcases. That said, the odd shopping bag, school bag or sports bag won’t be a problem.

  • Nobody leases an R8 to save money. The 5.2-litre V10 engine will give you around 20 miles of range for every gallon of petrol. That doesn’t change much depending on the version, but the basic RWD model is the most fuel-efficient. That car will return 22.2mpg on the official economy test, compared with 21.7mpg for the range-topping V10 Performance Carbon Black.

That isn’t bad going for a supercar. Better still, those figures are achievable in the real world. As long as you show some self-restraint with the accelerator pedal. But even that isn’t enough to make this car cheap. Carbon dioxide emissions of almost 300g/km mean company car drivers will have to pay the top 37% tax rate.

And the Parking Assistance Pack is also included, giving you parking sensors at the front and rear, while a reversing camera is fitted to the back of the car.

The Audi R8 Vs Competitors

Audi’s supercar is up against some of the very best in the business. The Ferrari F8 Tributo will be high on customers’ wishlists, along with the McLaren 570S. It’s also worth looking at the ever-popular Porsche 911. And if you’re after something more comfortable, consider the Bentley Continental GT or the Aston Martin Vantage. But the R8’s biggest rival is the Lamborghini Huracan. It looks more outrageous and it comes with the Lamborghini badge, yet it shares an engine, gearbox and 4-wheel-drive system with the R8.
  • Audis are known for their reliability and the R8 only backs that up. The engine might be big, but it’s relatively simple and mechanically sound, while the gearbox and 4-wheel-drive system are well proven. Outstanding build quality and tried-and-tested electrical components only add to the peace of mind.

  • The Audi R8’s boot is located between the front wheels, where it offers 112 litres of carrying capacity. That’s less than you get in a Ferrari F8 Tributo, but slightly more than a Honda NSX. It’s more than enough for an overnight bag or even a shopping trip.

  • You can lease an Audi R8 in one of 4 trim levels. The entry-level RWD car has everything you need, but it misses the quattro 4-wheel drive. The quattro version remedies that and adds more power, while the Performance gets an even greater output. The Performance Carbon Black model gets extra styling features and upgraded brakes.

  • Yes. You get parking sensors as standard across the R8 range. Every model comes with sensors on both bumpers, as well as a reversing camera. The display pops up in the digital instrument cluster when reverse is engaged.

  • As supercars go, the R8 is relatively practical. The 112-litre boot isn’t huge, but there’s plenty of room inside and the seats are comfortable. The 4-wheel-drive versions feel secure and stable, while the Audi solidity instils confidence. All of which makes it much easier to use every day than a Ferrari.

  • The R8 has become a hero among car fans. It’s fast enough to worry the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of this world, but it’s easy to use every day. The unassuming badge and aggressive looks give it a slight blue-collar appeal, while the incredible V10 engine stirs the soul of every petrolhead in earshot.
