Why Lease A DS 3 Crossback?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
All those stylish lines and the cool interior design do come with a slight downside. When it comes to interior space, it’s no surprise that the DS 3 isn’t the most spacious small SUV around. The driver and front passenger should feel right at home after a few seating adjustments, but taller adults will be bumping heads and knees in the rear. The boot offers just 350 litres of space – well below cars like the VW T-Roc or Audi Q2. The MINI Countryman is even further ahead, with 100 litres more space. The rear seats do fold (mostly) flat in a 60/40 split and the resulting 1050 litres is more useful, if still behind the others.
Storage space is also at a premium, as the door pockets are small and there are no cupholders for the passengers in the back. The front occupants do get 2 cupholders and a flat section ahead of the gearlever for keys and phones.
Strong economy is a key factor in any small SUV leasing decision and the DS 3 doesn’t disappoint on this front. The manual 110hp diesel powerplant leads the internal combustion offerings with an average of 61.4mpg in mixed driving. The petrol engines range between 49.6- and 44.8mpg, making a strong case for picking one of the more powerful variants given the difference is so minimal.
The electric motor is capable of 198 miles between charges. Covering the same distance in the diesel will cost you more and the electric DS3 also benefits from a far lower benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax band (1% compared to 33%+ for the others). One mitigating factor here is the higher leasing cost of this model – if you aren’t planning to rack up the miles, then the diesel or one of the petrols can make for a more financially savvy choice.
DS 3 CrossbackThis model comes in a compact 5-door SUV body style. It is available with petrol, diesel and electric motors, and is front-wheel drive only.
The DS 3 Crossback Vs Competitors
The DS 3 is a relatively new model so its reliability has yet to be tested. It’s based on existing technology from parent company Citroen, which should minimise any teething issues in these early years. All DS models come with a 3-year/60,000-mileage warranty as standard.
There are 6 trims in total. We would opt for the Prestige trim (1 up from the base) which adds the 10-inch infotainment screen and allows you to spec the electric model, along with a wide range of leather interior finishes.
Yes, all models come standard with rear parking sensors. From the Prestige grade up, you get front parking sensors as well.
This is not the most practical small SUV around. The rear seats can be a bit cramped for taller passengers, the boot is small and there is not an abundance of storage spaces for your effects either.
No. All models are front-wheel drive, which means that they are less suited to off-road driving but will still be perfectly capable of tackling a muddy trail.
