Why Lease A Volkswagen Polo?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
You’re never short of space inside the Polo. Even the back seats offer reasonable room for taller grown-ups. There’s also plenty of cabin storage for a car of this size, with a large cubby hole beneath the dashboard, as well as generously sized door bins front and rear.
It’s a similar story with the boot space. At 351 litres, the Polo holds usefully more than most of its rivals – the Ford Fiesta, included. A 60/40 split-folding rear seat and a height-adjustable boot floor add further practicality, with 1125 litres of capacity on offer if you tuck away the back seats.
Almost all of the Polo range is covered by a series of 3-cylinder petrol engines. These vary in power output, but they all deliver around 50mpg and around 120g/km of CO2. This places the Polo solidly in the middle of its class, toe-to-toe with rivals such as the Ford Fiesta and the Vauxhall Corsa.
There’s no hybrid or electric option yet, and no diesel version in the UK either. At the other end of the scale, there’s the Polo GTI that gets a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, which still returns a respectable 39.8- to 41.5mpg.

Volkswagen Polo GTI
On paper, the Polo GTI offers virtually identical performance to the class-leading Fiesta ST. In reality, it’s a slightly different take on the hot-hatch recipe, with a better ride and greater refinement than the Ford. That makes the Polo GTI an easier car to live with day-to-day, but the trade-off is that it doesn’t feel quite as exciting to drive.Volkswagen Polo GTI+
This is a trim spec, which brings added equipment, but retains the same performance and dynamics as the standard GTI.Trim Levels
The Volkswagen Polo Vs Competitors
In a recent independent reliability survey, the Polo beat the Ford Fiesta. However, it still only managed a mid-table result, finishing behind both the SEAT Ibiza and the Skoda Fabia.
One of the most spacious cars in its class, the Polo offers a generous 351 litres of boot space with the rear seats up and 1125 litres with them folded away. Bear in mind the GTI loses some luggage capacity at the back, its comparable figures reading 305-1079 litres. This is because its bigger 2.0-litre engine up front means the battery has to be relocated beneath the boot floor, eating into the cargo area.
The Volkswagen Polo is available to lease in a broad range of trim specs, from entry-level Match to the range-topping GTI+.
Yes, all models have front and rear parking sensors. Park Assist and a rear-view camera are optional on most grades.
The Polo boasts one of the largest boot volumes in its class, along with an impressive amount of passenger space for a small hatchback.
The Volkswagen Polo is a popular leasing option because it’s a consummate all-rounder that combines small-car running costs with big-car comfort.
