Why Lease A Honda E?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
The E’s boot is on the small side but it’s more spacious than some city cars. The 171-litre boot is more than big enough for shopping, school bags or other items, but it won’t work for a family holiday in Cornwall. compared to the petrol-powered Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108, it’s quite spacious.
It’s the same story inside. The E isn’t massive – the external dimensions see to that – but there’s enough room to seat 4 people. There’s loads of room up front and the rear space is adequate for adults. Kids will have bags of space to stretch out in.
With no petrol engine and no tailpipe emissions, the E is going to be cheap to run. Charge the batteries overnight from a domestic charger and you can take advantage of cheaper rates. But the 137-mile maximum range means long journeys are less appealing, with charging stops necessary along the way. And charging away from home is a slightly more expensive business.
If you can fill up with electrons at home, though, the E will cover everything you need for a normal weekday, and probably a little more besides. You might find you only need to charge every other day if you live near your local amenities.
If you’re a company-car driver, the news is even better. The electric powertrain means you’ll spend very little on tax. Single-figure benefit-in-kind tax rates are the preserve of electric vehicles and the E conforms to that. If you live near work and own another car, you could save a fortune on tax by switching to a Honda E.

The Honda E Vs Competitors
Honda has a great reputation for reliability, so don’t expect too many problems with the E. The powertrain is quite simple, so that shouldn’t cause trouble, and the build quality is good. If the number of electrical gizmos worries you, rest assured there’s a 3-year warranty.
Thanks to the E’s rear-drive layout, the boot only measures 171 litres – much less than you’ll get in a Mii Electric or a Corsa-E. But it’s still plenty for shopping or school bags. And if you fold the rear seats down, it grows to a much roomier 861 litres.
When you lease a Honda E, you get a choice of just 2 different versions. The entry-level ‘standard’ car misses out on some of the Advance model’s creature comforts, and the more upmarket car is also more powerful.
Yes. Parking sensors are standard on all models, while the ‘standard’ car comes with a reversing camera. Upgrading to the Advance version gets you the ‘multi-view’ camera system.
A small boot means the E isn’t the most spacious city car you can lease. The Mii Electric and VW E-Up have bigger boots. But the E is roomy enough for all your luggage and it’ll carry 4 people in relative comfort. Compact dimensions and impressive manoeuvrability also make it handy in town.
The E’s looks and high-tech underpinnings have raised huge amounts of interest. If you’re after a small 2nd car with green credentials and low running costs, this retro hatchback should be on your shortlist.
