A sleek and sporty-looking ‘coupe-SUV’ that majors on style.

Less practical than a more conventional SUV – but still big enough for many.

  • It’s not hard to work out that the sloping rear roofline of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe means it can carry less of your stuff than your typical boxy family SUV would be able to. But it still has a useful hatchback-like boot opening.

And if its 500-litre boot capacity (a little less if you choose the plug-in) is enough for you, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t go ahead and lease a GLC Coupe on the strength of its sporty looks and involving driving experience.

Elsewhere in the cabin there’s plenty of glovebox, door-bin and storage-box space for all your odds and ends.

  • Running costs for the GLC Coupe are more reasonable than you might expect from a large, sporty premium SUV. The biggest influence on running costs when leasing a Mercedes GLC Coupe is what engine you pick – and if you want to minimise your bills, you should go for either of the plug-in hybrid options: the petrol-electric GLC 300e or the diesel-electric GLC 300de.

Plug these in regularly and keep their batteries topped up, and you’ll be able to do a good deal of your weekly motoring without using a drop of fuel. And it’s good to know that the GLC 300de in particular is still pretty economical even after the battery has been depleted – it is a diesel, after all.

If your budget or lack of suitable charging solution limits you to one of the non-hybrid versions, don’t worry. They’re still reasonably efficient, with the GLC 220d diesel managing more than 44mpg.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Models Available

GLC Coupe SUV

The GLC Coupe SUV mixes elements of off-roader, hatchback, coupe and saloon car in 1 body, so it’s hardly a shock to find there’s just this body style on offer.

High Performance Models

The GLC Coupe range includes AMG GLC 43 and AMG GLC 63S ‘go-faster’ variants, which are particularly suited to the car’s swoopy looks (as well as beefing them up a bit with large alloy wheels and aggressive, sporty body kits). Both offer prodigious acceleration to go along with the eye-catching styling – although both come at a cost.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Trim Levels

AMG Line AMG Line Premium AMG Line Premium Plus AMG 43 AMG 63 S

AMG Line is your starting point when leasing a Mercedes-Benz GLC, so it’s pretty well kitted out from the off. Equipment comprises AMG styling touches, privacy glass, 19-inch alloys, power-adjustable front seats and 3-zone climate control.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Vs Competitors

Not that long ago ‘coupe-SUV’ was an almost non-existent class of car, but today there are plenty about, so the GLC Coupe isn’t short of rivals. The Range Rover Velar is perhaps the strongest, while the BMW X4 puts the emphasis more on driving fun than indulgent luxury.

Jaguar doesn’t offer specific coupe versions of its SUVs, but the F-Pace is a pretty sporty proposition in the first place and so rivals the GLC Coupe as much as it does the regular GLC.

  • The petrol and diesel-engined versions hold 500 and 1400 litres respectively with the rear seats up and down. The same figures for the plug-in hybrids (taking into account space given over to the batteries) are 350 and 1250 litres.

  • Technically, AMG Line is the only trim level the GLC Coupe comes in, with Premium and Premium Plus serving as bolt-on option packs that add extra goodies. The high-performance AMG models effectively work as 2 further trims, too.

  • Yes. Every version gets the Mercedes-Benz ‘Parktronic’ system, which includes both front and rear parking sensors with visual and audible warnings if you’re getting too close to a nearby obstacle.

  • If outright practicality is top of your list, you should consider leasing a Mercedes-Benz GLC rather than the GLC Coupe. The GLC Coupe’s boot capacity is smaller and it’s less adept at swallowing large, bulky objects. But its rear seats still fold down and there’s plenty of cabin storage – so many families will judge it more than adequate.

  • Some people may be baffled as to why you’d want to pay the same or slightly more to lease a car with a slightly smaller boot, but it all depends on your priorities. If you prefer the looks of the GLC Coupe and it’s practical enough for your needs, then go for it!
