  • There’s plenty of space up front in the 208 and legroom in the back should just be about fine, too. Rear headroom is tight for taller adults, though, especially in models with a sunroof.

Boot space is good at 311 litres, with more room than the Ford Fiesta or MINI Electric, but less than the SEAT Ibiza or Renault Zoe. Some electric vehicles lose boot size because of the need to house batteries, but the E-208 has the same capacity as regular cars. You can fold the rear seats down if you need to carry larger items, giving you 1106 litres of space.

General storage is impressive too, with space under the central armrest, deep door pockets, and a pair of cupholders, as well as a generous glovebox.

  • Lease an E-208 and Peugeot promises you up to 217 miles per charge. Expect an efficiency of around 2.9 miles per kWh (the electric equivalent of miles per gallon), which is similar to rivals like the MINI Electric and the Volkswagen ID.3.

You can charge the battery from a 7kWh home wall box in 7.5 hours, or to 80% in 30 minutes using a 100kW public rapid charger. The 208 comes with a cable to let you charge from a regular 3-pin socket if you don’t have access to a charger. It’ll take around 24 hours for a full charge on such a connection.

If you do mostly longer journeys, then diesel could be your best bet. It’ll give you up to 73.6mpg according to official figures, while the petrol engines will give you up to 56.7mpg, depending on spec. That’s impressive compared to rivals. The mid-level 1.2 PureTech, with a manual gearbox, will be the most efficient option.

The entry-level 208 is far from spartan. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels and comes with Faro Yellow metallic paint as standard, and also possesses air conditioning, cruise control and a speed limiter. Rear parking sensors and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system are also included.

The Peugeot 208 Vs Competitors

The market is full of some very popular and very good small hatchbacks. When it comes to driving fun, nothing can match the Ford Fiesta. Volkswagen’s Polo and the very similar SEAT Ibiza have the 208 beaten for interior space. They don’t feel as classy, though. You can read our Polo vs 208 article for more info on how these two match up).

Vauxhall’s Corsa shares many of the 208’s mechanical bits, as the 2 manufacturers are owned by the same company. It’s also a very good car and could make for a slightly more affordable leasing deal. If you’re considering a higher-spec 208, you might also want to look at some more premium rivals, such as the Audi A1.

On the electric side, the closely-related Corsa-e is an obvious rival to the e-208, as well as Fiat’s new 500, the Renault Zoe (see our vs article to see how the Zoe compares to the e-208) and Nissan Leaf.

  • Yes. Some rivals do a few things better, but the 208 is a really solid all-rounder, with a premium feel that not many can match.

  • Peugeot has a reasonable reputation for reliability and one that’s improved a lot in recent years. The brand even topped a recent independent dependability study. It’s too early for a definitive verdict on the latest 208, but fingers crossed it’ll be more reliable than its disappointing predecessor.

  • With stylish looks and entry-level engines that won’t break the bank on insurance premiums, the 208 would be a great first car. However, some rivals have lower insurance.

  • Active Premium is the entry-level Peugeot 208 trim, while Allure is another step higher. It has extra equipment like automatic air conditioning, a more comfortable interior, and an electric parking brake.

  • 3 factories are building the Peugeot 208 around the world, but UK-bound cars are made in Trnava, Slovakia.

  • According to official tests, the Peugeot e-208 will do 217 miles on a single charge.

  • Get the best fixed monthly payments with Vanarama when you choose from our Peugeot 208 lease offers and deals. We never include hidden costs or fees so what you see is what you pay.

Plus, we’re rated Excellent on Trustpilot for our great customer service. When you shop with us, you can also expect free 30-day returns to give you peace of mind when choosing your preferred car without any pressure.
