An estate version of the Skoda Superb has always been a very good idea. After all, the standard hatch variant offers more interior space than any other model in its segment, so creating station wagon body style was always going to make a lot of sense. Conventional versions of the current car offer 660-litres of space with the seats up and a huge 1,950-litres when the rear bench is folded down.
The current model is based on the third generation Superb design and was significantly updated towards the end of 2019, with smarter looks and the option of a Plug-in Hybrid ‘iV’ variant. This electrified derivative claims to be able to provide up to 35 miles of all-electric WLTP-rated driving range plus a WLTP combined cycle fuel figure of over 200mpg. Interested yet?

Vanarama customers get a choice of four Superb Estate trim levels – ‘SE’, ‘SE L’, Sportline Plus and top ‘Lauren & Klement’. All are extremely well equipped, most models including full-leather upholstery and all featuring DSG auto transmission. The key volume powerplant for this Skoda is a 1.5-litre TFSI petrol unit with 150PS. Skoda still believes heavily in diesels, so the Superb Estate can still be had with a 2.0-litre TDI unit offering either 122, 150 or 190PS. The 150PS version offers a manual or auto choice; otherwise, you have to have DSG auto transmission.
If you’d like some other Superb Estate engine options, you can talk to us about a 2.0-litre TSI petrol powerplant with either 190 or 272PS. Or a clever ‘iV’ Plug-in hybrid model, which uses a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine mated to an electric motor powered by a lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Go for the most powerful petrol or diesel models and four-wheel-drive is available, which could make this Superb a great alternative to a similarly-priced mid-sized SUV.
The two main competitors for Skoda’s Superb Estate tend to be medium-range segment estates like station wagon versions of the Ford Mondeo, the Volkswagen Passat and the Mazda6. But in size, this spacious Superb is more akin to full-Executive estates.
The Skoda Superb estate proves that there is still life in the concept of spacious family station wagon. No other estate you could lease for similar money will carry more. And the Superb does this with style, technology and efficiency.
