Magnificent Turn Of Speed
The Volvo C40 is built on the same underpinnings as the XC40, so it’s roughly the same size inside. That means the C40 can seat 5 when needed and the sloping coupe-like roofline will only bother very tall adults – children will be fine.
The C40 comes as standard with a powered tailgate, which opens wide just like a hatchback to reveal a good 413 litres of boot space. That’s only about 40 litres less than in the XC40. The rear seats also split and fold flat to make it easier to carry larger items. Under the bonnet you will also find a small storage compartment, which is handy for hiding away the charging cables.
Front-wheel-drive versions of the C40 use a 69kWh battery, which has an electric range of 272 miles according to tests carried out to industry standards. All-wheel-drive versions offer that bit more performance, with a slight increase in range to 278 miles.
Charging The Volvo C40
The Volvo C40 can charge at speeds of up to 150kW at a high-power charging station, which will have you on your way with up to 80% battery charge in just under 40 minutes. Charging at home will take about 12 hours from a 7kW wallbox. Every C40 also comes with a special Plugsurfing card, which gives you access to over 200,000 charge points across the UK and Europe.

Compare Your Volvo C40 Lease Deal
There are plenty of luxury electric SUVs nipping at the heels of the C40, including the Tesla Model Y, Audi Q4 E-Tron and the Mercedes-Benz EQB. But when you go for a Volvo C40 lease deal, you know you will be driving one of the coolest and most desirable electric SUVs on the market.
The C40 is an excellent choice if you want an SUV that’s a bit more stylish and exclusive than the rest, but which can still carry 5 people and have a decent range between charges.
Volvos generally have a good reliability record. And with less-demanding electric underpinnings, we expect the C40 to follow suit as a highly dependable machine.
The C40 has a 413-litre boot that can expand to 1205 litres with the rear seats folded down. There’s also the bonus of a small storage compartment under the front bonnet, ideal for storing charging cables.
The C40 and XC40 are built on the same underpinnings, but the C40 is marginally longer, wider and lower. They have the same wheelbase, which means that they are almost identical in size inside. The C40 just has a little less rear headroom because of the sloping coupe-style roof.
The C40 Recharge is available in 3 trim levels – Core, Plus and Ultimate. The C40 Recharge Twin with all-wheel drive is available in the Plus and Ultimate trim levels only.
Yes, all versions have rear parking sensors. An impressive 360-degree camera is available on some versions too.
The C40 Recharge Twin with all-wheel drive has the longest range at up to 278 miles on a single battery charge, but the other versions aren’t far behind.
