You could soon be driving the best van in the world. The all-new Ford Transit Connect was named International Van of the Year 2014 by a panel of leading van journalists at the COMTRANS commercial vehicle exhibition in Moscow this week. It beat the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Renault Kangoo. The Transit Connect made its UK debut at April's CV Show in Birmingham, and is set to replace the outgoing model by the end of the year.
It was the vans' ability to reduce transportation costs that really impressed the judges, who viewed it as a good answer to the needs of small operators and big fleets alike. It's easy to see why; with class-leading fuel economy the ECOnetic model delivers 4.0 l/100 km (70.6 mpg) and CO2 emissions of 105 g/km. The highly fuel-efficient 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine also offers class-leading petrol economy.
Judges also praised the bold design of the all-new Connect, its refined car-like interior, and the vehicle's great driving dynamics. Its ability to shift stuff struck the judges too. Available in Van, Double-Cab-in-Van and Kombi body styles, the Transit Connect offers a load area with total volumes of 2.9 m3 and 3.6 m3 with a full bulkhead; maximum payloads of up to 2,200 pounds match the best in class figure.
The prestigious International Van of the Year accolade for the all-new Transit Connect comes as Ford completely redesigns its entire commercial vehicle stable. This will include an all-new four-strong Transit range, alongside the Transit Custom and the 2-tonne Transit and Transit Courier to be launched in 2014.
