BMW 5 Series Leasing

The BMW 5 Series has been setting the standard in the large executive car class ever since it arrived back in the early 1970s. The current model ticks pretty much every box – it’s desirable, comfortable, practical, fun to drive, great looking, up-to-date in terms of technology and relatively cheap to run if you choose the right engine. It’s no surprise that many people don’t think twice about leasing a BMW 5 Series.

Top 3 Features

A hugely accomplished all-rounder.

Available as a 4-door saloon or 5-door estate.

Plug-in hybrid models can be exceptionally cheap to run.

  • Depending on how practical you need your 5 Series to be, you’ll choose to lease either the 5-door saloon or 5-door Touring estate. The latter is ideal for dog owners, or those who often embark on family holidays or undertake big DIY projects. But the saloon shouldn’t be sniffed at, either – it may not be huge, but it will take a couple of big suitcases in the boot with ease, while remaining slightly more refined at speed than the estate.

  • You may be thinking running a large executive car like the 5 Series will be a pricey undertaking, but that’s not necessarily the case. Even the entry-level petrol-engined version (the 520i) returns a respectable 44mpg fuel economy, while the 520d diesel can easily exceed 50mpg with gentle driving. For the very lowest running costs, however, you’ll want the 530e plug-in hybrid. An electric motor and battery give it the ability to cover more than 30 miles without using any fuel at all – although keep in mind you do need to have a charging wallbox installed at home in order to reap the full benefit of this.

Models Available

BMW 5 Series saloon

This is the classic 5 Series body shape – a sharp and sporty-looking 4-door saloon that offers plenty of interior space, a reasonably large boot and that very desirable BMW image, all in one package.

BMW 5 Series Touring estate

Estates aren’t as popular as SUVs, but looking at the 5 Series Touring will make you wonder why – this model offers a huge boot and loads of room for occupants, while retaining the classy looks and excellent handling of the 4-door.

High Performance Models

Enthusiasts know that any BMW with the letter ‘M’ in front of its name is something special, and the M5 high-performance model has been around almost as long as the regular 5 Series. It’s explosively fast, but also very expensive to lease and run. The M550i xDrive is a slightly more sober choice, but still extremely quick.

Trim Levels

People often gravitate to the sporty-looking M Sport trim level when leasing a 5 Series. However, even the entry-level SE is well equipped, coming as it does with 17-inch alloys, 2-zone air conditioning, a sports leather steering wheel, heated front seats, 8-speed gearbox, cruise control, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and 12.3-inch digital dials.Trim Levels Available: SE, M Sport, M Sport Edition, M550i, M5

BMW 5 Series vs Competitors

The 5 Series has rivals licked for driving enjoyment. Both the Mercedes E-Class and Audi A6 are fractionally more comfortable on a bumpy road, but can’t match the BMW’s handling sharpness. If you’re looking to lease an estate and need maximum boot capacity, it’s worth noting that the estate version of the E-Class can hold 1820 litres of luggage with the rear seats folded down, versus 1700 litres for the 5 Series Touring.
  • BMW in general, and the 5 Series specifically, has tended towards the middle and sometimes the bottom half of respected industry customer satisfaction surveys, so reliability is pretty good if not class-leading.

  • It varies. The saloon can hold 530 litres, dropping to 410 litres if you choose the plug-in hybrid model. With all seats in place, the Touring estate will swallow 560 litres, again with a reduction to 430 litres in the case of the plug-in.

  • If you’re looking to lease a BMW 5 Series, you’ll be picking between SE, M Sport and M Sport Edition trim levels with the standard petrol, diesel and hybrid engines, while the range is topped off by high-performance M550i and M5 versions.

  • Yes, every 5 Series from the base SE model up comes with BMW’s Parking Assistant parking sensors.

  • The 4-door 5 Series has the same practicality limitations as any saloon car, in that its boot opening is tight, so it can’t take very big boxes or awkwardly shaped items on board. The 5-door Touring estate solves these issues, however, offering a similar amount of luggage space to many medium-sized SUVs.

  • People are always keen to get a good lease deal on a 5 Series as it offers so much car for your money. The neighbours will be envious, you’ll be enjoying the fantastic handling, and your passengers will marvel at the comfort and interior technology.

  • Leasing a BMW Series 5 with Vanarama is the smartest way to upgrade what you drive.
