BMW X4 M Leasing

The BMW X4 M is a high-performance coupe-SUV from the top drawer. The looks might divide opinion, but the capability, performance and quality are not up for debate. BMW’s strapline is ‘the joy of driving’, and the X4 M is the perfect example of that. The laws of physics shouldn’t allow SUVs to drive this well, but BMW has found a way. And the world is a better place for it.

Top 3 Features

Brilliant handling.

Impressive performance.

Sexier than a BMW X3.

  • The X4 M has a 525-litre boot that’s more than big enough for most situations. It’ll swallow your holiday luggage, golf clubs or the weekly shop with ease. It’s also marginally more spacious than the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, albeit only by a fraction.

In the cabin, there’s plenty of space up front and a surprising amount of room in the back. Despite the sloping roofline, the X4 has just about enough headroom for most passengers and plenty of legroom. Unless you’re really tall, you should be perfectly comfortable back there.

But for all that, the X4 M is not as roomy as the X3 M. Both cars are more or less identical underneath, but the X3 M has the more practical X3 bodywork. That means you get a big boot and more rear space, without sacrificing performance. But you will have to sacrifice those looks. That’s a fair trade for some, but not for others.

  • The X4 M Competition’s 3.0-litre straight-6 engine is a peach, but it’s quite thirsty. According to the official economy test, you’re looking at 26mpg. That isn’t ruinous, but the slightly less hardcore M40d diesel will be cheaper to run. It just misses out on the sheer performance of the X4 M.

With economy like that, it’s no surprise to find the X4 M Competition in the top-end company-car tax bracket. Carbon dioxide emissions of between 244- and 247g/km mean you’ll be firmly in the 37% tax rate.

Models Available

Coupe-SUV 5-door

The X4 M is only available as a 5-door coupe-SUV with a rakish rear window. For more space, consider the X3 M. It’s the same car but with a bigger boot.

Trim Levels

Trim levels available: X4 M Competition. As you’d expect from a range-topping BMW, the X4 M is loaded with kit. You get leather upholstery, satellite navigation and a digital instrument cluster as standard. You also get goodies including parking sensors and a rear-view camera, plus smartphone integration technology that gives you access to your apps through the car’s infotainment system.

The BMW X4 M Vs Competitors

The X4 M plays in a small corner of the market, but it does have tough competition. Not only is it up against the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S Coupe, but it also has to mix it with the brilliant Porsche Macan Turbo. Few cars will beat the X4 in terms of handling, but the Porsche can. It’s an incredible car, but it lacks the svelte coupe image of the swoopy BMW. Elsewhere, the X4 M is up against the Audi SQ5 Sportback, which majors on style, quality and technology. If you want something more practical, you’ll find more conventionally shaped versions of the GLC, SQ5 and X4 M (although BMW calls the SUV version the X3 M). They might sacrifice style for space, but they’re still good cars.
  • BMW has a strong reliability record and the X4 M is expected to carry that on. The mechanical components are tried and tested, and the same is true of the electrical systems. So far, there are no horror stories to report. If you are worried, there’s a standard warranty with all new X4s.

  • The X4 M’s boot measures 525 litres, making it slightly more spacious than its biggest rival, the Mercedes GLC Coupe. It should be more than enough for most customers, but those who need more space might want to look at the more practical X3.

  • The X4 M is only available in Competition specification, which is sold as a range-topping model in other markets. That means you get plenty of standard equipment, plus a sizeable list of optional extras to choose from.

  • Yes, every version of the X4 M comes with front and rear parking sensors, as well as a reversing camera.

  • The X4 M may not be as roomy as the X3, but it’s still very spacious. You can fit 4 adults in the cabin and the boot is big enough to take their luggage.

  • The X4 M is a brilliant driver’s SUV, with sharp handling and awesome performance. But despite the focus on driving pleasure, it’s still a spacious, luxurious and stylish way of getting around.
