If there is any barometer as to the health of the economy, then sales of vans are a great indicator. And with a rise in van sales of *13.1 per cent over the last year, we think we can safely say that the economy is looking perky.
Great news for us, but with the majority of our customers in small businesses and the building trade - fantastic news for you too, we would argue. We've said before that we believe van drivers to be the backbone of the British economy and with sales like these; we've all got reason expect good things in 2014.
But enough self-congratulations! If you are in the market for a new van this year, then you are going to want to know what's hot and what's not. What were the best-selling vans of 2013?
The Ford Transit stays in a league of its own selling a total of 44,143 units. After receiving so many plaudits and awards throughout the year this is no surprise.
With sales of 19,154 the Mercedes Sprinter is next in line. The flexibility of this top-end van and outstanding safety features all helped it achieve such huge sales.
With an impressive load capacity, the Vauxhall Vivaro remains in the top three, selling 18,177 units in total. It also offers plenty of choice for the buyer with six different body styles to select from.
German automaker Volkswagen came in at number four with the Transporter selling 15,647 units. The Citroen Berlingo was close to its tail shifting 13,531 units.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, the commercial vehicle market performed better in 2013 than in the last five years.
