Audi TT Top Features

Smart looks, brilliant quality cabin.

Choice of coupe or convertible body styles.

Great to drive across the range.

  • The TT is a small sports car, so don’t expect to take the family on a long holiday in it. But for its size, it’s actually rather practical. There’s lots of room up front and the Coupe has 2 rear seats, although they’re best kept for small children. The boot is impressively large, if rather shallow, and the rear seats will fold down to carry larger items. The hatchback boot lid means it’s easy to load things in.

Space for the folding roof means the boot in the Roadster is smaller, although not by too much. You get 280 litres of space in the soft-top, rather than the Coupe’s 305 litres. There are no rear seats in the convertible.

Odds and ends can be stored in a large glovebox or a space ahead of the gearstick, which has a sliding cover to keep things out of sight. The door pockets are rather small, and there’s only 1 cupholder, however.

  • The TT favours performance over fuel efficiency, but you shouldn’t break the bank on fuel, at least outside of the top models. The entry-level 40 TFSI engine, with front-wheel drive, promises up to 42.2mpg, although that will drop if you drive with the enthusiasm for which the TT is designed. You’ll lose a little efficiency in the comparable Roadster models.

As the power goes up, so the efficiency goes down. The top-spec TT RS Coupe promises up to 31.7mpg, but again, expect mid-20s in the real world.

Audi TT Models Available

Audi TT Coupe

This version has 2 doors and a hatchback bootlid.

Audi TT Roadster

The folding soft-top of the 2-seat TT Roadster retracts into a space above the boot. The roof folds or raises in just 10 seconds at speeds of up to 31mph.

High-Performance Models

All of the TTs are sporty machines, but if you want to really embrace performance, go for the 320hp TTS or the 400hp TT RS. These are both available in either of the body styles offered by Audi.

The Audi TT Vs Competitors

The TT’s major rivals come from Porsche’s 718, in the form of the hardtop Cayman and convertible Boxster. Both have even better handling than the TT, but leasing costs are higher and there’s less model choice. The Alpine A110 is also a fantastic driver’s car, but again, there are fewer models to pick from and no soft-top version.

You could also consider BMW’s 2 Series and, at the lower end of the TT price range, hot hatches like the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Other sports car options include the Mazda MX-5, although this lacks the badge cachet, and even the all-American Ford Mustang muscle car.

  • Yes. It’s beautifully made, fun to drive and available in lots of different versions. However, Porsche’s Cayman and Boxster are even more exciting to drive.

  • No Audi TT is slow, but if you want real performance you’ll want to look at the higher-power versions, the TTS and the TT RS.

  • Fuel costs for the TT won’t be particularly low, and neither will insurance. Tyre costs will be a bit pricey, as we’d advise sticking with premium manufacturers, and wear will be quicker if you drive with enthusiasm.

  • That depends on what you want from it. A lower-powered, front-wheel-drive model will be a great lease deal for those that want a stylish, zippy runabout, but for enthusiastic drivers, the TTS and TT RS will likely have more appeal.

  • The current TT will be discontinued in 2023, but Audi has confirmed that its replacement will be an electrified model – either a plug-in hybrid, full electric vehicle, or with the option of both forms of power.

  • Leasing an Audi TT with Vanarama is the smartest way to upgrade your drive. You’ll get the best price, guaranteed with our Price Promise* and extra protection should the worst happen. You’ll also have access to expert advice when you need it! With no hidden fees to worry about, you can find your new lease of life today!
