Citroen Berlingo Leasing

The Citroen Berlingo is an immensely practical multi-purpose vehicle which serves as a people carrier and is a suitable leasing option for families. Originally based on a small van, Citroen has since broadened its appeal to create a value-for-money passenger version which is both fun and funky – with offbeat styling to bring a bit of French flair to the compact MPV sector.

Top 3 Features

Chunky and funky styling.

Petrol, diesel and all-electric power.

Supreme practicality and a choice of 5 or 7 seats.

  • Practicality is what the Berlingo is all about. Being box-shaped, there’s plenty of room inside – even in its smallest 5-seat M guise. Head- and legroom in the front or back shouldn’t be an issue for anybody. Everyone in the 2nd row of seats has the same amount of legroom, and on 7-seat XL models, the 3rd row of seats can be removed completely.

Boot space is on the very generous side – there’s 755 litres for the Berlingo M, and that increases to 1050 litres for the Berlingo XL, assuming you remove the rear-most 2 seats. Fold down all the XL’s seats and take out the 3rd row, and you’ll find a massive 4000 litres of room, with a 3-metre load length for ungainly items. That’s plenty of room for the kids, your kayak, your dog…

There’s even an opening rear window on some models, which means you can drop smaller items into the boot and onto the height-adjustable parcel shelf without having to open the very substantial tailgate. Trés intelligente!

Compartments in the centre console, dashboard and door bins store both big and small items, and a pair of dash-top cupholders mean drinks stay easily accessible.

  • With a selection of petrol and diesel engines, along with an electric version, choosing a Berlingo should be a relatively cost-efficient leasing choice. The turbocharged PureTech petrols and BlueHDi diesels incorporate the latest efficiency enhancements to save fuel, while still providing plenty of punch.

Official fuel economy for the PureTech petrol Berlingo is up to 51.1mpg, and the diesel BlueHDi records up to 65.4mpg on official economy tests. The electric E-Berlingo has a listed range of 174 miles, which is fewer miles than the slightly smaller Kia E-Niro SUV, but more than the larger Citroen SpaceTourer MPV.

The Citroen Berlingo Vs Competitors

Based on the Citroen Berlingo Van, the passenger-carrying Berlingo has spawned a host of van-based rivals including the Ford Tourneo Connect as well as the Volkswagen Caddy Maxi Life. The Berlingo’s closest rivals are the Peugeot Rifter and Vauxhall Combo Life which are, in effect, the same car. All 3 are based on the same small commercial vehicle. The van-based roots, and most notably the square shapes, of these MPVs make them very practical. However, rivals such as the Fiat 500L, Ford Galaxy and S-Max, Mercedes-Benz B-Class and Volkswagen Touran can feel more car-like, as that is what they’re based on.The Berlingo also faces in-house 7-seat competition from the car-based Grand C4 SpaceTourer, and the larger van-based SpaceTourer. There is also the C5 Aircross SUV.
  • Citroen has a reputation for reliability better than many European manufacturers and all Berlingos have a 2-year unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty as standard. This can be upgraded for free for another year, though with a 60,000-mile limit.

  • In a word, ‘beaucoup’. The 5-seat Berlingo M can carry 755 litres of luggage with the rear seats in place. Fold them down and there’s 1414 litres of room. Use every inch of space, with all passenger seats down, and there’s a whopping 3500 litres of capacity. The Berlingo XL increases these measurements still further to 1050, 1672 and 4000 litres.

  • Yes. All Berlingos come with rear parking sensors as standard, but only the Rip Curl model comes with front ones, too. A 180-degree colour reversing camera is optional on lower-spec versions but standard on plusher models.

  • The E-Berlingo can travel up to 174 miles on a single charge according to official economy tests. The E-Berlingo Van has a very similar 170-mile range. That’s fewer miles than the slightly smaller Kia E-Niro SUV, but more than the larger Citroen SpaceTourer MPV.

  • If you have an electric car that packs in all the family, you don’t want to keep stopping to charge it. At rapid charging stations that charge up to 100kW, the E-Berlingo’s 50kWh battery can be topped up to 80% in 30 minutes. On a home wall box, a 0-100% refill will take 7.5 hours, or 15 hours if connected to a 3-pin socket.

  • It’s chunky, funky and oh-so-spacious. More like a family friend rather than just a car, the Berlingo puts the ‘multi-purpose’ into the MPV with quite some style.
