Land Rover Discovery Top Features

Brilliant off-road performance.

Comfortable and refined on the road.

Lots of space for passengers and luggage.

  • Very often, 7-seat SUVs have lots of space for 5 and then a couple of tiny seats squeezed into the back. But the Discovery is a genuine 7-seater, and even adults will have legroom and headroom in the 3rd row. No other SUV will give you this much space for 5 in the back.

Using the 3rd row of seats means the boot isn’t huge, at 258 litres. But fold them away and you’ll get a massive space, which can expand even further if you drop the 2nd row of chairs too. It’s almost van-like – in fact, Land Rover even makes a commercial version of the Discovery.

Storage space is excellent, too. There are massive door pockets and a huge cubby between the front seats, as well as a hidden space in the dashboard for a mobile phone. A pair of gloveboxes can house even more odds and ends.

  • If the Discovery lacks anything, it’s a plug-in hybrid model, which could dramatically reduce running costs. That’s something that rivals like the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE and Volvo XC90 can all offer. It’s therefore hard to recommend a Discovery to company car drivers, as the benefit-in-kind tax will be higher due to higher CO2 emissions.

Both diesel engines promise the same fuel economy of up to 33.9mpg. That’s not brilliant, but remember that the Discovery is a big, heavy car with permanent 4-wheel drive. Of the petrol engines, the more powerful P360 will get better fuel economy than the P300, thanks to its mild-hybrid system – it’ll give you up to 26.7mpg.

The Land Rover Discovery Vs Competitors

When it comes to premium 7-seat SUVs, you’ve got a few solid choices. BMW’s X5 is fun to drive as well, and the Mercedes-Benz GLE is flash and luxurious. All of these have plug-in hybrid models. You could even look elsewhere in the Land Rover brochure – the Range Rover Sport has the option of 7 seats too.

  • Absolutely. The Discovery is comfortable, stylish, spacious, and drives well both on and off the road.

  • Running costs on any premium SUV won’t be particularly cheap. The Discovery costs more to fuel than rivals with plug-in hybrid powertrains, but other costs will be similar.

  • They have different price points, so aren’t directly comparable. The Range Rover leasing options are often bigger and arguably more luxurious, but the Discovery will seat 7.

  • People look for Land Rover leasing deals because of the brand heritage, luxurious image and impressive capability of its cars.

  • That depends on your priority. We’d stick with a diesel if you do long journeys and want good fuel economy, but for performance, the petrol P360 would be our pick.

  • Here at Vanarama, we make things as easy as possible for you to get the best possible deal on your Land Rover Discovery. We’ll help you drive away your dream car quickly and easily, with our experts on hand to help you.
