The Audi Q7 is broadly similar in size to the Volvo XC90, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. However, it manages to make better use of the available space and beats its rivals with 740 litres of cargo-carrying capacity with the third row of seats folded, and a cavernous 2,025 litres with both rear rows tucked away.
When all 7 seats are in place, the Q7’s 295 litres do fall short of the Volvo XC90’s 356-litre capacity, but this does not detract from the fact that the Audi Q7 is a very spacious vehicle. The seats are supportive and comfortable, and even the rear-most row offers decent leg- and headroom for children or shorter adults, especially if the second row is moved forward.
The plug-in hybrid models forego the third row of seats due to the battery located in the boot floor, and the space behind the second row is slightly smaller at 650 litres. It’s worth remembering that the 3 seats in the second row of the Audi’s cabin all slide individually, which makes for plenty of interior configuration options and is therefore a boon for family users.
Storage options for phones, drinks and handbags are plentiful, with the glovebox being particularly large. Occupants up front get a wireless phone charger and 2 USB ports located under the central armrest, while the middle row gets folding armrests with additional cupholders and another set of USB ports. Even the occupants in the third row get a set of cupholders.
