The Clio isn’t the most spacious car of this size, but it’s not cramped either. Taller adults may lack headroom in the back but otherwise it’ll house 4 adults, and 5 at a squeeze. For extra space, look at Volkswagen’s Polo, the SEAT Ibiza or Honda Jazz.
The boot, however, is massive, offering 391 litres of space. On top of that, it’s well thought-out, with a movable floor that lets you flatten the step between it and the bottom of the boot opening. This is very useful when hauling in larger, heavier items. The E-Tech Hybrid’s boot isn’t quite as big – its capacity drops to 301 litres because of the space needed for batteries. If you need extra space, you can fold the rear seats in a 60/40 split.
Up front there are big door pockets and a generous glovebox, as well as a handy storage area in front of the gearstick. Higher-spec models get a space under the centre armrest, too.
