Why Lease A Volvo S90?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
The S90 is one of the most spacious cars of its type, with more room in the back than the Audi A6 or the BMW 5 Series. If you need more legroom than this, you’ll be looking at bigger limousines, such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
The boot isn’t quite as massive, though. At 461 litres it’s smaller than most of its rivals, although that’s in part due to the space needed for the S90’s hybrid components. Some of the plug-in rivals also lose boot space to batteries. If you need more room, the rear seats fold down, but only in a 60/40 split – most rivals offer the versatility of a 40/20/40 set-up. You get a flat load space with the seats down, but the actual area isn’t that big.
Odds and ends can be stored in a variety of places, from a big glovebox to large door pockets, and a sizeable covered tray between the front seats.
The S90’s plug-in hybrid system means that fuel economy can be excellent, although you’ll have to use it in a particular way to make the best savings. Keep the battery charged, either through a home wallbox or a public charger, and keep your journeys short and a tank of fuel could last months. But once the battery runs out, power will come from the petrol engine and your fuel consumption will soar. Officially, the S90 will return up to 148.7mpg, but that’s almost meaningless as actual mileage is so dependent on use.

There’s only 1 version of the S90 – a 4-door saloon. However, Volvo also makes the V90, which is essentially an estate version of the S90.Trim Levels
The Volvo S90 Vs Competitors
It certainly is. It’s plush, stylish and well equipped, and a worthy rival to the more established German brands.
Yes, in a straight line. With 390hp it’ll hit the benchmark 62mph from standstill in just 4.8 seconds, which is seriously quick. However, it’s not really designed as a driver’s car, so don’t expect too much fun in the corners.
Volvo as a brand has a middling reputation for reliability. Independent studies tend to suggest its cars aren’t absolutely faultless, but there are rivals that are considerably worse.
With just 2 trims to choose from, you’ll get a few more toys and luxuries in the Inscription model. But the R-Design trim is the one to go for if you want a sportier look.
Well, it depends on your priorities. Lexus’ styling divides opinion, and while its cars are brilliantly reliable and well made, they’re often accused of not being that exciting. Volvo majors on styling that’s a bit less in-your-face and classy, and also goes big on electrification across its range, as well as top-notch safety.
