Why Lease An Abarth 695?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
There’s no denying that this is a car on the smaller side, built mostly for fun rather than practicality. The rear seats are more suited to children than adults, and the 185-litre boot is on the smaller side, although it’s fine for a few bags of shopping and the rear seats can be dropped to improve overall luggage space.
The in-cabin storage isn’t the most generous you’ll find, either - the door pockets are quite thin, for example. So again, this is a car best thought of as a sports car that happens to have four seats.
There’s only 1 engine on offer here – the 180hp 1.4-litre unit, which promises around 40.9mpg in mixed driving, and while you’ll of course have to drive quite carefully to achieve that figure, it’s very impressive given the car’s performance and sense of fun. It’s worth thinking about insurance costs too, which aren’t unreasonable but are nonetheless on par with other performance hatchbacks like the Audi S3.

The Abarth 695 is a minuscule hot hatch. It’s more characterful and exciting to drive than a VW Up GTI and Suzuki Swift Sport, but less practical than both. Similarly priced rivals like Volkwsagen’s Golf GTI and the slightly pricier Honda Civic Type R offer more interior space if you need it.
Compared to the Abarth 595 you might wonder whether the price premium for the 695 is worth it. However, its ability to put a smile on your face after a short blast in the countryside remains unmatched for the money.
The Fiat 500 (on which the Abarth 695 is based) has not had the most stellar reliability record. However, the Abarth itself has received favourable reviews from owners over the years. The 2-year/unlimited-mileage warranty offered as standard is below par compared to most rivals, which offer an additional year at the very least.
You get 185 litres behind the rear seats, which should be just enough for a few small bags, but you will get more luggage space from something like a Hyundai i20N or Ford Fiesta ST.
There are currently 2 trim levels on offer – the Esseesse and 70 Anniversario. The differences between them amount to visual design changes. There have been numerous special edition trims over the years with unique detailing, logos and fabric finishes.
You get rear parking sensors as standard and there is no real need for sensors at the front, seeing as the car is so small you can easily slot it into even the tightest of parking spaces.
The Abarth 595 has access to the same engine, making the same 180hp (although less-powerful versions of the 595 are available), and much the same specifications. The 695 offers unique interior and exterior design cues, and a few more standard features. Special items include an aluminium bonnet (to save weight), adjustable rear spoiler and Sabelt racing seats.
There’s nothing else quite like it. The vocal exhaust note, punchy engine and eager character of the 695 makes it the perfect fun car.
