Why Lease An Audi A3?
What’s The Cabin Like?
How Does It Drive?
The Audi A3 is a practical compact car, capable of storing 380 litres of luggage in Sportback form with the rear seats in place, increasing to 425 litres in the Saloon; don’t be fooled, though, as the Sportback’s larger boot opening and better-shaped storage area all make it the more practical model when compared to the Saloon.
Opt for the plug-in hybrid hatch, however, and that practicality takes a hit. The plug-in part of the powertrain robs the A3 TFSIe of 100 litres of space, but then it’s a similar story with the A250e plug-in version of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The high-performance S3 models suffer in the same way – the 4-wheel-drive system shaves off 55- and 85 litres from the Sportback and Saloon models respectively.
The Audi A3’s interior offers adequate storage options, with large door bins to hold bottles and a space ahead of the gear lever. A pair of centre console cupholders sit in front of an armrest with a concealed storage bin, while more stuff can be put into the rear door pockets. Audi offers an optional storage pack which includes front seat storage nets, 2 additional 12V sockets, a lockable glove compartment and a luggage securing net, as well as an LED light in the boot space.
Known for its advanced engine technology, Audi’s latest TDI diesel and TFSI petrol engines give good economy, and the plug-in hybrid TFSIe petrol-electric units combine higher performance with between 37-41 miles of zero-emissions range.
As a guide, the petrol-powered A3 Sportback TSI’s fuel economy starts in the high-30s, the TDIs bettering that by almost 30mpg – and it’s a similar story for the A3 Saloon. The more powerful sports S3 models offer up mid-30s mpg. As you’d expect, the electrified plug-in hybrids offer the best economy of all, ranging from 235.4-282.5mpg on the official claimed WLTP cycle. Providing you regularly plug them in, of course.
Models Available
A3 Sportback
The ‘regular’ A3, as there is no 3-door any more, the Audi hatch is now exclusively available as a more practical 5-door.A3 Saloon
A more conventional 4-door, the A3 Saloon’s body style is very rare in this class and has a generous 425-litre boot.A3 TFSIe Plug-In Hybrids
There are 2 of these, the 204hp 40 TFSIe and the 245hp 45 TFSIe. These are both front-wheel drive and also bear in mind the TFSIe drivetrains are only installed in the Sportback body – you cannot have an A3 Saloon plug-in hybrid.High Performance Models
The 4-wheel-drive S3 Sportback and S3 Saloon are real firecrackers, reaching 62mph in just 4.8 seconds and topping out at a limited 155mph.Trim Levels
The Audi A3 Vs Competitors
A 3-year warranty is offered on the Audi A3, the first 2 years having no mileage cap, the 3rd limited to 60,000 miles. You may need it, too, as Audi hasn’t got a faultless record in reliability surveys.
The Audi A3 Sportback can carry 380 litres of luggage with the rear seats up, but the plug-in hybrids offer 100 litres less. The S3 Sportback stores 325 litres of cargo – blame its 4-wheel-drive system – while the S3 Saloon manages 340 litres, down from the A3 Saloon’s figure of 425 litres.
There should be a lease deal for every driver with the Audi A3 family. A total of 6 trim levels offer choice aplenty, starting with the well-equipped Technik. Sport comes next, rising through S line, Edition 1 and Vorsprung. The most powerful TFSIe plug-in hybrid A3 Sportback comes in an additional S line Competition version, while the high performance S3 hatch and Saloon are also available in top-level Vorsprung specification.
Every single Audi A3 Sportback and Saloon has rear parking sensors with an acoustic warning signal as standard, so your paintwork should hopefully stay bump-free.
The A3 bosses compact family car practicality, thanks to its 4- or 5-door body styles, large luggage spaces and decent rear-passenger room. Foldable 60/40 split rear seats also give more cargo and passenger-carrying options.
A popular car since it was first launched, the Audi A3 is an excellent leasing deal choice as it blends Audi’s high quality finish and technology in a family friendly footprint. A variety of models and engines means the Audi A3 offers a selection few rivals can match.
