Vanarama makes a difference with our £38,564 charity donation

How we've been supporting our chosen charities over the last year. All businesses, no matter their professionalism or size, experience that last minute flurry of figures and papers that signals the end of the financial year! Now the books are balanced and the dust has settled we are proud to announce that Vanarama has donated a massive £38,564 in support of local and national charities in the last year. Those charities include local homelessness charity, DENS, Prostate UK, Battersea Cats & Dogs Home as well as another worthy charity close to home, The Hospice of St Francis.

"One of the big plusses for me of operating a successful business is being able to make a real difference to charities close to my heart," explains Vanarama Managing Director, Andy Alderson. "It's not just me that enjoys working hard to raise funds for charity.  The staff here at Vanarama have really thrown themselves into charity support this year, some of them literally, with a sponsored skydive in aid of the Hospice of St Francis, raising well over £9000."

As well as sponsored events for our charities we also thought outside the box for fundraising ideas.  In October we used our sponsorship of the Vanarama Conference to good effect.   By pledging a donation to Prostate UK on behalf of every football fan attending a Vanarama Conference fixture on Non League Day, not only did we raise £7,735 for the charity, but we also raised awareness of Prostate Cancer amongst a largely male audience and encouraged more supporters to non-League football to boot.

It also made sense to use our strength as van specialists, able to negotiate great deals on commercial vehicles, to benefit our charities.  To this effect we have sourced and donated a van to Battersea Dogs and Cats Home which is now used in its vital work of re-homing and caring for animals in need across the country.  Meanwhile, the Citroen Relay we gifted to homelessness charity DENS is helping the charity in their tireless work of reducing homelessness and aiding disadvantaged people in the local area.  Finally, patients and carers at the Hospice of St Francis are able to get to their appointments more easily thanks to our donation of a new Ford Galaxy.

So, with such an impressive figure donated to some amazing charities already, what's the plan now? "With our dedicated charities and fantastic engagement from all our staff, charity support is truly embedded in the company here at Vanarama.  We're working closely with our charities and staff with the aim of doubling our charitable contribution during this financial year," says Andy.
