How Does It Drive?
Practicality is a relative term with any city car. Seats that slide back further than some rivals mean tall people won’t have any issues getting comfortable in the front of the Picanto. The Picanto is quite a tall machine, which translates into good rear headroom – but people of a taller persuasion might struggle with legroom.
The boot is big for the class at 255 litres, usefully larger than those of the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo. The rear seats fold in a 60/40 split for more versatility, resulting in 1010 litres of load space in all, but there are no clever tricks such as sliding rear seats or height-adjustable boot floors. Other practical touches include a sliding centre console (with cubby), a pair of cupholders and useful door pockets.
Small dimensions and a relatively light body weight makes the Picanto an efficient car. There may be no diesel or hybrid options, but the Kia’s pair of 1.0-litre petrol engines produce good fuel economy figures.
As a guide, the 1.0-litre 67hp non-turbocharged engine achieves up to 67.3mpg on official fuel economy tests. The 1.0-litre 100hp turbocharged version is good for up to 51.3mpg.

The Kia Picanto Vs Competitors
The Picanto finished ahead of the Suzuki Ignis) but behind the Toyota Aygo in the 2020 What Car? Reliability Survey. Overall, Kia was placed 7th out of 31 brands, and all its models have a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty as standard.
The Kia Picanto’s boot holds 255 litres, which is more than the Peugeot 108 and a lot more than the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo.
The Picanto model family encompasses a wide range of leasing deals. The entry-level 1 is followed by the 2 and 3, while the X-Line and X-Line S add some SUV-type styling touches, a 15mm ride-height increase for more ground clearance and also extra equipment. The GT-Line and GT-Line S are the sportiest-looking Picantos, with their red exterior and interior highlights.
Rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are standard on Picanto 3, X-Line, X-Line S and GT-Line S models. Depending on the shade chosen though, the sensors may not match the exterior body colour.
Classed as a city car – a vehicle smaller than a supermini such as the Ford Fiesta – the Kia Picanto is not going to be the most practical family transport if your brood is much older than a brace of early teens. Saying that, headroom is good in the back – though legroom not so much.
With a decent amount of equipment from the middle trim levels upwards, enjoyable driving and good efficiency, the Kia Picanto is a small car with a big list of things to like.
