"Sturdy and spacious" is the phrase that leaps to mind when it comes to the Berlingo. It's a classic workhorse design mashed together with a load of great features, with added comfort and style. Not only is it nice and affordable, but it's also got bags of room in the back – having become very popular with many professional trades because of this.
The Berlingo had a bit of a facelift in 2015, nothing major, just some smartening up of the lines, oh, and a line of advanced diesel engines that are making it one of the most fuel-efficient vans on the market – but more on THAT later.
First of all, let's take a look at what people are saying about it. Our customers, always vocal in their support of things they like have a lot of positive things to say. Mark Andrew Shaw, for example, said: "I absolutely love it. I'm like a kid with a new toy, I actually don't want to get to work because it means I have to get out of my van, but I look forward to the drive home." We could probably end this edition of Vanatomy right here…no?
What's inside the Berlingo's sliding doors?
In our best deal, the Berlingo Enterprise in question is an L1 model, and packs enough room in the back to fit two Euro pallets – that's huge for a van of this size. And even the front cabin is nice, with a well-thought-out front dash and control station. Vanarama customer Fred Lightowler said: "It's like an office inside with the on-board computer. I'm delighted."
You've even got the option to have three people in there. True, the person in the middle might be a bit squished, but it certainly opens up the potential of the van being able to have that option. One of our customers, Daniel Churchill, is full of praise for the front cabin and commented: "Unlike other manufacturers, the front cabin has been thought out and there are useful storage spaces throughout. A massive plus is three seats and having the option to fold one down to allow longer items to be carried is brilliant."
Power and efficiency
Let's be clear, the Berlingo is one of the best on the market for fuel efficiency, thanks to the great line of diesel engines. The Berlingo Enterprise's 1.6 BlueHdi engine returns close to 70mpg in its automatic set-up, and nearly the same in manual – cracking news for any prospective leasers out there, especially when we tell you that this efficiency doesn't come at the expense of performance, as our customer Stuart Swann adds: "Fuel economy is excellent, and for a small engine provides plenty of torque."
So, if you're in the market for a smaller van, with bags of space, a modern interior and great fuel efficiency…might we suggest a look at the Berlingo Enterprise?
